WHERE IS THE YEAR GOING?

We are officially half way through 2014. I don’t understand the sentence, I just thought for a hot minute and then wrote it down. I don’t know how that’s possible. I feel like it was Christmas time two weeks ago, and yet here we are, sweating together a few weeks deep into July. I don’t know about you, but I personally feel like this is the time of the year when I start to reflect a little bit and figure out how I want to go about the rest of the year. Summer often leaves us with some time to evaluate our current situations, we have vacation days, we have long weekends at the beach with nothing but our thoughts and the ocean and a book we’ve been “meaning to read” — it’s the perfect time to look back at the past 6 months, check in with ourselves, let ourselves relax a little, then decide (with conviction) how we want to move forward.

Honestly, I just spent 30 minutes looking through images trying to find the LEAST offensive way to say this: “1 year form now you’ll wish you had started today”. It’s cheesy, it’s cliche, IT’S TRUE. I like to hit snooze just as much as the next guy but we can’t continually hit snooze on our lives and expect change — more than that we can’t continue to being completely unaware of the time that is flying by us like crazy. We need to recognize where we are in our lives, and where we want to be and make an active, conscious, intelligent, passionate, courageous decision about what we want to do next. Think about it for a little, let it simmer then — STRIKE! Make your move. How do you want to spend the rest of the summer? Do you want to swim more? Do you want to take more trips? Do you want to exercise more? Make the most of the heat? Do it! Start now!

Saying all this is a lot easier than doing this I know, I know, I’m aware- but it will be worth it! Here is some recently overheard advice: “no one said it would be easy, just worth it” (thank you Angela Davis, genius SoulCycle instructor).

So how do we begin? We all have different tools for dealing with things, for making change, for moving forward, and I can’t tell everyone what will work for them — but here’s what I think works well to get yourself moving.

MAKE A LIST
Write it down, darlings! Write it all down! What you love about the past six months, what you wish you did differently, how you’re feeling at the moment, how you want to be feeling, GOALS, what do you want to accomplish within this next year? What do you think you can accomplish? What tools do you need to make sure you accomplish them? Figure it all out, the details, the minutia is important!

GET ACTIVE
I don’t care if you want to do it, force yourself, just do it!- “a little pain now is worth a lifetime of glory” (YES I TOOK THAT FROM THE NEW ANGELINA JOLIE UNBROKEN TRAILER, DON’T HATE) It’s true. You have to want it (whatever it is you want in your life) more than it hurts you, more than it scares you. Choose to just go, to just live your life to the fullest possible extent! I don’t just mean professionally either, I mean spiritually, personally, and romantically. Find out what’s important to you, how you want to love, how you want to have fun, how you want to work, and make sure that you’re doing things with intention. How you really want to be doing them.

I needed a little inspiration to get out of this some of this summertime sadness & felt like some of you might too!

Enjoy the rest of your summer, y’all!
